چکیده

Results Individual episodes of fever usually resolved with a single intramuscular 1 mg/kg dose of methyl prednisolone. The mean fever resolve duration during the febril episode was 1.64 hours. FMF gene was investigated in 109 and we determined heterozygot MEFV gene mutations in 19 of our patients (17%). At the onset of febril episodes the mean CRP value was 6.09±8.48 mg/dl (1-38), the mean Serum Amiloid A value was 240 mg/L (2,7-1900), Prokalsitonin values were negative. Our testing included at least a CBC at the onset of febril episodes (the mean WBC: 13150/mm3, range 4500-26.400 cells/mm3) with a preponderance of neutrophils. IgM levels were low in the 5 patients, IgA levels were low in the 6 patients and IgG levels were low 11 patients according to their healthy age matched controls. PFAPA patients had normal CRP and Procalsitonin levels between febril episodes. A total of 89 patients were treated with colchicine. The mean interval between episodes was statistically prolonged in patients who were on prophylactic colchicine therapy.

Periodic fever, aphthous stomatitis, pharyngitis, adenitis: a clinical review of a new syndrome.

Periodic fevers (fevers that occur predictably at fixed intervals) are unusual in infants and children. The classic periodic fever syndrome is cyclic neutropenia (neutropenia followed by infections and fever that recur every 21 days). A new periodic fever syndrome PFAPA (periodic fever, aphthous stomatitis, pharyngitis, and cervical adenitis) has been characterized over the past decade. PFAPA i...

Clinical Features and Genetic Background of the Periodic Fever Syndrome with Aphthous Stomatitis, Pharyngitis, and Adenitis: A Single Center Longitudinal Study of 81 Patients

PFAPA syndrome is the most common autoinflammatory disorder in childhood with unknown etiology. The aim of our study was clinical evaluation of PFAPA patients from a single tertiary care center and to determine whether variations of AIM2, MEFV, NLRP3, and MVK genes are involved in PFAPA pathogenesis. Clinical and laboratory data of consecutive patients with PFAPA syndrome followed up at the Uni...

PFAPA syndrome: with regard to a case.

BACKGROUND PFAPA syndrome (Periodic Fever, Aphtas, Pharyngitis and cervical Adenopathies) is one of the causes of periodic fever in pediatrics and it is characterised by high fever, pharyngitis, cervical adenitis and aphtous stomatitis. Its etiopathogeny is unknown. The diagnosis is clinical and the findings of laboratory are unspecified. One or two doses (1 mg/kg) of oral prednisone are enough...
